Performing the Voyage: Legacies and Echoes of the Komagata Maru
July 6, 2014 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Museum of Vancouver (1100 Chestnut Street)
This evening of music, art, poetry, and conversation will engage with artists inspired by the Komagata Maru Episode and the narratives of the South Asian Canadian experience. Renowned Indian visual artist Orijit Sen will discuss his current collaborative project that engages with local artists to re-imagine the histories and resonances of the Komagata Maru. Featured authors include Renee Saklikar, Phinder Dulai, and Priscila Uppal engaging with narratives of memory and remembrance, while musician Neelamjit Dhillon will weave a series of performances from his new jazz and Indian classical inspired Komagata Maru Project throughout the evening. Author Reading & Poetry Recitation on June 14
June 14 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at the City Centre Library in Surrey (10350 University Drive)
The City Centre Library and PICS will host an afternoon of stories, songs, images and movies by literary artists, including readings by author Tariq Malik and poet Phinder Dulai. Local Punjabi poets Gian Singh Kotli and Ajmer Rode will share work on the importance of the Komagata Maru episode. Read more.
